Chapter 15

Seer

My lungs burn, and I wake up in a fit of coughing. Turning onto my back, I prop myself up on my elbows, then wince when I assess the damage to the armor on my chest. It’s not healing, and I can’t retract it. Plus, there’s a sting in my belly. I touch the stab wound and find it sealed. I sniff, trying to get oriented by scent, but my fucking nose is stuffed full of smoke, blood, and the smell of a Regha male in the room with me, but I can’t tell who it is right now. First things first. I stick my forked tongue out and taste the air. The scent of Omega pussy sticks to the tip of my tongue. “Kiki, come here.” I pat the place next to me and feel fur under my fingertips.

“Hi, Seer.” She scoots closer.

I sit up and grab her, pat her body for injuries and find her unharmed, then pat behind me to find a wall. I slump against it. “Ayo,” I call.

My hound whines.

On my far left, a peep sounds, and that’s Cockster. Okay. We’re all good.

I wiggle my nose. “How long was I out?” I ask.

Movement catches my ear. “Who’s there?” I can’t smell a single thing. For all I know, the imposter sits across from me, sipping morning brew.

“It’s me, Seer,” Arkin says.

Shit. Dreikx delivered my Omega along with my brother. Why he’d bring my brother into my ranks when I have an Omega to breed is beyond me. Much of Dreikx’s reasoning is generally beyond me, and I don’t even try to understand. Moving on. “Welcome to the camp, brother. How many males did I lose?”

He says nothing.

“That many, hm?” I scrub my face. I don’t like hearing nothing from Arkin. I’ve lost many males, and I have shit to show for it. I don’t count the small stuff like conquering the imposter’s towns or thousands of Swarm. His head is the only thing that counts, and I don’t have it.

“Your armor is damaged,” my brother says.

“You are so observant. Want a medal?” I roll my eyes.

“Dreikx says it could be permanent. He removed a chunk of it with the damage, and the med crew are gonna look into it.” His robe flutters as he changes positions, probably standing now. “Did you have to make a target of yourself?”

We suffered losses, and he’s fucking evading my questions. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. What happened?”

“The imposter leads you wherever he wants you, and you’re following. It’s dumb.”

“I was born that way.”

“You were not. You chose to make a target of yourself. Now you’re injured.”

“I’ll recover.”

“No doubt. But you’re injured now, your location is shit, and the imposter is using drones, which you can’t fight barehanded.”

I sit up, inhaling smoke. “Why is there so much smoke?”

“The entire town lit up. It’s leveled. Nothing but dust.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean what I said.”

A wet cloth hits my chest, and Kiki pushes against my shoulder, trying to move me back against the wall.
